This year, Southern States Insurance chose Operation Christmas Child as the company-wide service project. Each office packed a varying number of shoe boxes filled with goodies to be sent to to children in need around the world!
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a program of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. Since 1993, OCC has delivered packed shoe boxes to more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries. Some of the countries on the donation list include (but are not limited to): Botswana, China, Ecuador, Madagascar, Mongolia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, The Republic of Georgia, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
Each box is designated for either a boy or girl, then an age group is chosen (2-4, 5-9, 10-14). The boxes are then filled with things such as toys, hard candies, school supplies, basic apparel items like socks and t-shirts, hygiene items etc. They are wrapped up and then dropped off at a local donation center. Finally, they are sent to a massive distribution center where they make their way to the final destination, somewhere around the world!
Below are some of the pictures, from when our staff packed up the boxes! Operation Christmas Child estimates that 9.8 million shoe box gifts will be collected in 2013!
